For ALL the people
I was reading my Bible in Luke chapter 2 this morning. Many of you know, this is the story of Jesus' birth. I've heard/read this many, many times, and I almost wanted to skip over it because it's all so familiar to me. But I didn't, and I'm glad.
As I was reading, there were some words that jumped out at me. "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be FOR ALL THE PEOPLE." Those words "for all the people" just brought me to tears. For all the people....that's me!! This good news that brings great joy is for ME. Even though these words were written 2,000 years ago, the Bible says in future tense "will be" for all the people.
What is this good news? The next verse says that a Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord, was born on that day. The good news is that a Savior was born! He was God's perfect Son, sent to earth to die in my place for my sin, so that I could live in freedom and abundant life on this earth. Then when I die, I get to go to heaven to live forever. A Wonderful Savior He is!
This good news is for all. the. people. I love that phrase. It doesn't matter how you look, how rich or poor you are, how dark your past or present is, how unloved or unworthy you feel, how great your sin is, how many friends you have or don't have...this news is for YOU. You are all. the. people. too. And there is a Savior who wants to save you from all of that mess. He loves you so much. Right where you are. We all need a Savior. The good news that WILL bring you great joy is that He came for you. All you have to do is call out to him and believe. "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
I'm so glad he saved me. I would not want to walk thru this life without Him. I'm just so glad he came for all the people. I'm all the people. And you are too.
